Xfinity from Comcast internet and plan details

We’ve listed Xfinity’s lowest pricing and fastest speeds below, but whether or not your area is actually eligible for the lowest pricing depends on your location.

For example, in select areas including Miami, Chicago and Houston, the Performance Starter plan starts at $20/mo. for up to 25 Mbps, but in other locations, such as Macon, GA and parts of New Jersey, it may start at $29.99/mo. for speeds up to 15 Mbps.

Higher-tiered plans have a bit better price and speed consistency from region to region, as seen with the Gigabit plan, which is $79.99/mo. in select markets, $80/mo. in others with speeds up to 1,000 Mbps in both.

Why choose Xfinity internet?

With coverage spanning more than a third of U.S. households, Xfinity internet is an option for many. If you’re in an Xfinity service area, you can expect numerous plan options and high-quality Wi-Fi equipment, plus unlimited data and no contract options.

What we like

  • Lots of plan options Xfinity offers up to seven standalone internet plan options
  • The fastest max speeds The Gigabit Pro plan is currently the fastest residential internet plan from any major provider, with speeds up to 2,000 Mbps
  • Free internet security with Wi-Fi equipment rental Xfinity Advanced Security is free with your xFi router rental, a $72/yr. value
  • Xfinity Flex included with select plans Streaming device, voice remote and access to streaming apps and free content included at no extra cost

Things to consider

  • Inconsistent plan pricing – Xfinity plan pricing varies by region with some areas paying more for the same or similar plan as others
  • Data cap and equipment fees Exceeding your data allowance could add to your monthly bill, as will equipment fees, but it is possible to avoid these
  • Higher pricing for no contract No term agreement options are available, but a one-year agreement is required to get the lowest introductory pricing on most plans

Xfinity equipment fees, term agreements and data cap info

You can expect fees, contracts and data limits from nearly every provider, but where some providers have set terms and conditions, Xfinity does a good job of giving customers options.

Equipment fees – from $0-$25/mo.

The xFi Wi-Fi device has some nifty features such as free internet security and app-controlled device management, but it will also add $14/mo. to your bill. And if you want elite Wi-Fi service, which includes Wi-Fi extenders if needed, that will raise your equipment fee to $25/mo.

The good news is you don’t have to use Xfinity’s equipment. If you have a device compatible with Xfinity internet, you can use your own and skirt the equipment fee altogether. Going that route, however, may limit the abilities of Xfinity tech support should you have an issue with your service.

Term agreements – none or one-year with most plans

With the exception of the Gigabit Pro plan which requires a two-year term agreement, Xfinity lets you opt for no contract, but with a catch. Choosing no term agreement will likely raise the introductory price of your plan by $10/mo. or more. If you want to get that introductory pricing at its lowest, you’ll likely have to sign a one-year agreement.

Data cap – varies, but probably 1 TB with unlimited available

Like their internet pricing, Xfinity data caps can vary by location, but the most common one we’ve seen is 1 TB/mo. This is a pretty standard data cap, AT&T, CenturyLink and Cox have the same cap on many of their plans. It’s also a lot of data, much more than the average household can use.

Those who like to binge stream TV, especially in HD or 4K resolution, are more likely to approach the 1 TB/mo. data cap, and going over could add fees up to $50 to your bill. Fortunately, you can add unlimited data to your plan for an additional $30/mo., or get it included with the xFi Complete Wi-Fi package.

Additional benefits of Xfinity internet

Internet speed and pricing are important, but there’s more that goes into a quality connection. Enjoy the convenience of Xfinity Wi-Fi at home and on the go.

xFi Gateway

Add the xFi Gateway modem and router combo device for a strong wireless connection complete with simple Wi-Fi management and parental controls. Upgrade to xFi Complete to ensure whole-home Wi-Fi connectivity and get unlimited data included.

Wi-Fi hotspots

*In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots are temporarily accessible to everyone free of charge.

While other providers offer hundreds or even thousands of Wi-Fi hotspot locations, Xfinity claims to have millions. As an Xfinity internet customer, you can log in to Xfinity hotspots for a fast, convenient connection on the go. Find an Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspot near you.

Internet security

Online protection for your connected devices is included at no extra cost with the Xfinity xFi Gateway device. Enjoy advanced protection against viruses and malware, plus prevention of remote access of smart devices such as cameras from potentially dangerous sources.
