Xfinity TV offers a wide variety of choices
Comcast’s Xfinity is the largest cable TV provider in the nation, available to more than a third of U.S. households. With such a wide coverage area, specific Xfinity TV-only and bundle packages, channels and special offers will often vary by location.
Xfinity TV has a lot to offer, from basic cable services with numerous add-on options to DVR service and streaming capabilities, but it may not be for everyone. To help you decide if the service is right for you, we’ve listed package, pricing and equipment details below along with our expert analysis of how it all compares to other providers.

Xfinity TV equipment and the X1 DVR
Available with select Comcast TV packages, the Xfinity X1 cable box gives you full control to find, watch and record your favorite shows.
X1 DVR capabilities:
- Find shows, change channels with the Xfinity Voice Remote
- Record up to six shows at once
- Store up to 500GB of content
- Access popular streaming services, such as Netflix and Pandora, straight from the device
- Watch live and on-demand TV at home and on the go with the Xfinity Stream app
- Download shows to your mobile device with the Xfinity Stream app and watch offline
If you don’t bundle Xfinity TV and internet, you can still get DVR service, but it will come with less functionality than the X1 DVR. Or, if you don’t need DVR service, go with a standard TV box or HD receiver. Xfinity is also one of the few TV providers to allow you to use your own compatible TV equipment.
Xfinity equipment fees
You’ll probably want to add TV equipment with your Xfinity service, and it will likely increase your monthly bill per TV.
X1 DVR fees
- First TV – $8.50/mo.
- Additional TVs – $8.50/mo. each
Receiver fees without X1
- DVR device – $8.50/mo.
- Additional receivers – $8.50/mo. each
HD fees
Depending on which devices you choose, Xfinity may also hit you with a $9.95/mo. “HD Technology Fee.” Customers are most likely to encounter this fee when they opt for HD receivers that aren’t the X1, as Xfinity often waives the fee when you choose the X1 DVR.
Broadcast fees
Most Xfinity TV packages also come with a broadcast TV charge up to $24.95/mo., as well as a Regional Sports Fee up to $19.15/mo. on packages that carry your local MLB, NBA and NHL teams’ games.
Add-on channel packages
Xfinity has an impressive lineup of packages you can add-on to Xfinity cable plans compared to other providers. You’ll find premium channels like HBO Max® and STARZ® as well as major sports packs such as MLB Extra Innings and NBA League Pass.
Streaming with Xfinity Flex
Xfinity Flex
Xfinity Flex is a streaming device that you can plug into your TV’s HDMI port to access popular streaming apps such as NBC’s Peacock, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube, all in one place.
- Stream 10,000+ on-demand movies and TV shows
- Find titles and search by category with the Xfinity Voice Remote
- Stream in 4K resolution
- Rent or purchase movies
Xfinity Stream App
The Xfinity Stream App connects you to all the channels that come with your TV package on your mobile devices while at home. It is included at no extra cost with all Xfinity TV plans, and you can download the Xfinity Stream App for free on your iOS or Android device.
