Astound provider overview
Astound Broadband is the sixth largest cable provider in the U.S. and is the umbrella company under which cable providers RCN, Wave Broadband, Grande Communications and En-Touch reside as of January 2022. These regional providers have retained their name, becoming Astound Broadband Powered by RCN, for example. Depending on your location and which internet plan you choose, your connection could include a cable, fiber optic or DSL connection, or a hybrid or multiple network types.
Astound Broadband covers parts of 10 states and the plans can vary in each area. We are using pricing, plans and speeds available in Chicago, Ill., for this review. You can check your address here to see if Astound cable internet and TV plans are available in your area.
What we like
No data caps – Astound internet does not have data caps, so you don’t have to worry about added fees and throttling for going over a monthly data limit.
Whole home Wi-Fi – Sends Wi-Fi throughout your home for a convenient, reliable connection. Wi-Fi equipment is available to rent or included with select plans.
No contracts – Astound plans require no contract to get introductory pricing or special offers, so you aren’t locked into a long-term commitment.
Things to consider
Pricing and speeds depend on location – Astound’s internet plans in separate markets may be priced differently, even for similar speeds. Plus, the Gig 1.2G plans may not be available in all locations.
Channel lineup – Astound’s top cable TV package offers about 298+ channels, less that providers such as Verizon or DIRECTV that offer 425+ and 330+ channels respectively.
Price increases – When promotional pricing ends, the monthly costs can jump fairly far. For example, according to the Chicago rate card, the 1G plan is $155.99/mo. with a 12-month promo price of $44.99/mo.
