What to expect from Frontier internet service
Frontier offers fiber or DSL service, depending on your location. If you are looking to work from home or live stream from multiple devices frequently, you will want to choose a larger plan.
We scored Frontier internet service on a scale of 1 to 5 across four major categories. To learn more, see our methodology.
Frontier Fiber vs Frontier Internet
Overall, there’s a fairly significant difference between having access to Frontier Fiber and Frontier Internet (DSL). If Frontier Fiber is available to you, you will have access to better speeds (upload and download) and service. Starting prices may be slightly higher, but the value of the service will be superior.

What we like
No hidden fees – Frontier internet plans include your equipment rental and unlimited data.
Fiber speeds at competitive prices – With 500 Mbps speeds starting under $50/mo., Frontier Fiber plans are as fast and competitively priced as about any on the market.
Availability in rural areas – Frontier serves many small cities, suburbs and rural areas across the U.S.
Things to consider
Low customer satisfaction – The American Customer Satisfaction Index ranked Frontier below among major internet providers with a score of 61/100 in 2022.
Frontier Fiber now comes with 5 Gig speeds
Frontier Fiber provides a reliable internet connection for online gaming, streaming your favorite shows and working or learning from home.
Take a look at the benefits of Frontier Fiber and the 100% fiber optic network:
- Fast download and upload speeds – Frontier Fiber can reach 5 gig speeds, up to 5,000 Mbps. Additionally, fiber can deliver much faster upload speeds, up to 5,000 Mbps, whereas cable or DSL internet upload speeds are unlikely to reach more than 50 Mbps.
- Lower cost per Mbps means better value – The fast speeds and comparatively low prices of Frontier Fiber plans give you more speed for the money. All of Frontier Fiber’s internet plans have you paying around $0.10 per Mbps or less.

Choosing the right Frontier Fiber Internet plan
- Frontier Fiber 500 Mbps – This plan is perfect for households with heavy internet usage, including gaming, streaming and online learning. If you work from home or have a household of up to 6 people, this is the plan for you. The Amazon eero Wi-Fi router is included.
- Frontier Fiber 1 Gig – Hardcore gamers, professionals working from home and households with numerous bandwidth-hogging devices will appreciate the added speed that comes with Frontier’s Gig plan. If you consistently have more than 8 devices connected at a time performing high-bandwidth tasks, you may want to consider this plan. The Amazon eero Wi-Fi router is included.
- Frontier Fiber 2 Gig – If you’re looking for some of the fastest speeds in the country, Frontier’s 2 Gig has them. Very few households will need all this bandwidth, and unless you’re connecting more than 16 devices simultaneously, the Gig plan will probably be just fine. The Amazon eero Wi-Fi 6E router is included.
- Frontier Fiber 5 Gig – For super smart-powered homes full of hardcore gamers and learn- and work-from-home professionals, this plan offers lower latency and an Archer AXE300 Wi-Fi 6E router is included.

Frontier® Internet plans
Frontier® Internet uses DSL technology to deliver an internet connection over your phone line. This helps bring affordable internet service to more areas, especially rural areas that may not have access to a quality cable or fiber optic internet connection. Plus, Frontier® Internet plans come with unlimited data, a bonus you’re unlikely to find with a satellite or fixed wireless connection.
Frontier® Internet service comes with the fastest speeds available at your address, so speeds and pricing will vary by location.
Frontier® Internet
Starting at $49.99/mo.*
Wi-Fi equipment, contracts, data caps and fees
A modem-router gateway device is included with all Frontier internet plans and Whole Home Wi-Fi is available starting at $10/mo.
Equipment rental is included in the price
There is no added fee for equipment as your rental is included with the price of your plan. Frontier’s plans are month-to-month with no annual contract.
Frontier equipment features a single “gateway” device that acts as your modem and Wi-Fi router in one. Necessary Wi-Fi equipment may vary by internet type and speed you choose, but you can trust Frontier to provide the right device for your connection.
The plans include the following:
- Frontier Fiber 500: Amazon eero Wi-Fi router.
- Frontier Fiber 1 Gig: Amazon eero Wi-Fi router.
- Frontier Fiber 2 Gig: Amazon eero Wi-Fi 6E router.
- Frontier Fiber 5 Gig: Archer AXE300 Wi-Fi 6E router.
No contracts, no data caps
Some Frontier plans require a one-year contract, meaning you’ll have to pay early termination fees if you want to cancel service. Most plans increase after the first year and three years.
There are no monthly data caps with Frontier internet, so you don’t have to worry about watching your data usage to avoid overage fees. That’s not to say Frontier internet is truly unlimited, however, as excessive data use may violate the Frontier terms and conditions.
Expert installation fee
Frontier’s DSL installation fee is $85, Fiber 500 is $50 and Fiber 1 gig and higher is FREE (up to $85 value).
Auto Pay Discount
When you enroll in Frontier’s Auto Pay, you get a $10/mo. discount with any Frontier Fiber plan and DSL offers a $5/mo. discount.
Frontier internet vs. other top providers
If you have the option to choose between Frontier and another internet service provider, there are a few things you’ll want to consider, such as starting price, speeds, data limits and contracts. Frontier Fiber is one of the highest-ranked internet providers due to its fair pricing and download/upload speed range. If Frontier’s only service available to you is DSL, you may want to consider a different internet provider, depending on where you live.

Customer satisfaction scores among the worst of all ISPs
Frontier has some of the poorest customer satisfaction scores out of any provider. Frontier scored second-lowest in customer satisfaction on the 2022 ACSI report. However, this poor rating is mostly due to its lower tier DSL products in rural or underserved areas and less due to its fiber optic service.
Report | Frontier internet score | Average ISP score |

2022 ACSI | 61/100 | 65/100 |
FAQs
Will I have a data limit with my Frontier internet plan?
No. Frontier internet plans come with unlimited data so you won’t have to worry about going over a data limit, paying overage fees or dealing with reduced speeds at the end of the month.
Is Frontier internet available in my area?
Frontier is available in select areas of 25 states. Most locations will have access to Frontier® Internet while Frontier Fiber is available in 15 states.
What Frontier Fiber plan is best for me?
All Frontier Fiber plans come with speeds suited for streaming, online gaming and browsing the web. As you connect more devices, however, you’ll find that faster speeds will likely give you a better online experience. The 500 Mbps Fiber plan is sufficient for most households but if you live in a larger household with members who frequently live-game and live-stream and work from home, you may want to upgrade to the Fiber 1 Gig plan.
