CenturyLink internet, TV and phone services
CenturyLink provides internet service in 36 states, covering more than 16% of U.S. households, or around 52 million people. Their DSL internet is available in all CenturyLink serviceable areas, fiber optic service is available to about 30% of people in CenturyLink service areas and bundles with DIRECTV and home phone are also widely available.

CenturyLink provider overview
At Allconnect, we work to present quality information with editorial integrity. While this page may contain offers from our partners, our opinions are our own. Here’s how we make money.
CenturyLink offers either DSL or fiber optic internet, depending on where you live, and CenturyLink home phone makes a great addition to CenturyLink internet services. Add DIRECTV to complete your home services package.
What we like
Reasonably-priced internet plans with wireless home Wi-Fi – Though CenturyLink prices may start a little higher than other providers, they make up for it by offering Price for Life offers, which means your monthly price won’t go up for the life of the plan.
No contract internet and phone plans – CenturyLink doesn’t have pesky long-term agreements and early termination fees to worry about.
Bundle with DIRECTV to get the complete package – Though not required, the CenturyLink and DIRECTV bundling option is great if you need both TV and internet.
Things to consider
Your internet speed can vary depending on location – The speed of internet that CenturyLink offers in your area can vary, and fiber optic service is only available in select cities.
Modem and installation fees – CenturyLink charges a monthly fee for modem and router rental. Avoid this fee by purchasing your own equipment. Or, choose contactless or self-installation to reduce upfront costs.
Internet data limits on most plans – CenturyLink has a 1 TB data limit on most internet plans, but you won’t get charged extra if you go over. The 1 Gig plan, however, offers unlimited data.

Does CenturyLink have added fees?
As with any internet provider, your CenturyLink bill may come with added fees such as the Telecommunications Relay Surcharge or Subscriber Line Charge in addition to local, city and state taxes. Exact fees and surcharges will vary by location.
There is no contract with CenturyLink service, so you don’t have to worry about an early termination fee. Additionally, CenturyLink includes a modem free of charge with select plans and may waive the installation fee for new customers.
Is CenturyLink good?
CenturyLink is a solid choice for internet and home phone service. The company has been around for over 50 years and their business has continued to evolve as new internet technologies have emerged. In 2020, the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) rated CenturyLink a 63/100 based on customer satisfaction feedback from actual customers, which places them ahead of most other DSL providers like Windstream and Frontier.
Does CenturyLink have a data cap?
CenturyLink internet plans come with a 1 TB data limit. Though technically a data cap, in reality, 1 TB of data is far more than the average family would use in a month. For example, to reach 1 TB of data, you would need to stream HD video for 350 hours, or approximately 11 hours a day, every day.
Is CenturyLink available in my area?
CenturyLink offers service in 36 states with the most coverage in Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington. CenturyLink’s fiber internet is less available than their DSL service, but still covers 16 million people primarily in larger cities such as Denver, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Orlando, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Seattle.

CenturyLink and Qwest merged in 2010 with CenturyLink shareholders collecting 50.5% of the share ownership while Qwest shareholders retained the remaining 49.5%. Following the merger, CenturyLink acquired internet and telephone networks previously operated by Qwest, extending their brand to new areas in 14 states.
