How to cancel or transfer your Optimum service

Are you moving to a new home or unhappy with your Optimum service? You might need to either transfer or cancel your service. It’s easy to cancel Optimum internet and television service. Keep reading to learn how.

Are you moving to a new location? You may be able to transfer your Optimum service to your new home. First, make sure Optimum service is available in your new area. Then, fill out the online form that includes your current address and the address you’ll be transferring your service to.

Are you eligible to cancel your Optimum service?

Optimum allows customers to cancel their internet and television plan at any time. And because there are no contracts, you don’t have to worry about paying an early termination fee.

There are no restrictions on who can cancel their Optimum service. However, be aware that if you owe a balance, you will need to pay it when you stop service. Any equipment you rented must also be returned.

Ways to cancel your Optimum service

Canceling your Optimum service online

Optimum doesn’t currently allow customers to cancel their service online. You must call (833) 200-7514 or the area-specific numbers below.

Canceling your Optimum service over the phone

Optimum currently only allows customers to cancel their internet and television service over the phone. Here is the correct number to call, based on your location:

  • Bronx, Brooklyn or Westchester: (718) 860-3514
  • New Jersey: (973) 230-6048
  • Long Island: (631) 393-0637
  • Connecticut: (203) 870-2583

Canceling your Optimum service in person

Optimum doesn’t currently allow customers to cancel their service in person. 

Pausing Optimum service

You can pause your Optimum service for up to six months by calling Optimum customer service at (866) 218-3259. There is a small monthly fee to pay for paused service, but you won’t have to pay your full bill amount each billing period.

How to return your Optimum equipment

You can cancel your Optimum service up to the last day of the billing period before the service period you want to cancel. There are no early termination fees, but you will need to pay your current bill. 

Return your equipment, or you’ll be charged $100 for the modem, $80 for the router and $25 for the digital antenna.

How do you cancel Optimum internet and television service?

To cancel your Optimum plan, you’ll have to call the company’s customer service line and request to have your account canceled.

Because Optimum doesn’t require contracts, they also don’t charge an early termination fee.

You have the option to temporarily suspend your Optimum service for a maximum of six months by contacting Optimum customer service. You will still have to pay a monthly fee that is lower than your full bill during this time.
