What are your Mediacom internet speeds?
How fast is your Mediacom internet? Use our speed test for an idea of what download and upload speeds you are getting. Follow our recommendations to get the most accurate results. Try testing your speeds at various times to see how your speeds can fluctuate at peak usage times. Below the test, you can compare your Mediacom speeds to other users and find ways to boost your speeds.
Using the Mediacom speed test
Before starting the speed test, there are a few steps you’ll want to take to get the most accurate results.
- Connect your computer directly to the modem using a Cat5e or higher Ethernet cable. Once connected, you may need to go to your computer’s network settings to select the wired connection.
- Unplug your router from the modem. This will automatically disconnect Wi-Fi enabled devices that would otherwise skew test results. Note: If your modem and router are a single device, you’ll need to disconnect or turn off any devices connected to the network. This includes mobile devices, smart TVs, smart home devices, gaming systems and Wi-Fi enabled cameras.
- Close all other open windows or applications on your computer.
- Click “Start Testing Speed” to begin the speed test.

How our speed test works
Our speed test is a quick way to see what kind of speed you’re receiving from your provider. But how do they work? Well, first we’ll determine where you’re located and where you are in relation to the nearest server. Our test will send a ping to the server and measure how long that trip takes. Then, we’ll conduct a download and upload test to see how fast your network is transmitting data and how much effort it takes.
When you run your test, be sure to disconnect any alternative devices using the connection. The device conducting the test should be the only one connected to the network. Other connected devices can alter your speed test results.
How do your Mediacom speeds compare?
Depending on the location, Mediacom advertised download speeds can vary from 60 to 1,000 Mbps. Regardless of which Mediacom internet plan you have, your actual speeds should be within 80% of your plan’s advertised speeds.
A 2018 FCC study reported Mediacom average speeds were higher than the plans’ advertised speeds. Check out the findings of their report, as well as some of the cities where Mediacom offers speeds up to 1,000 Mbps.

Common factors affecting your Mediacom internet speed
Because you’ll be using a cable internet connection, your service will rely on a few things in order to stay up to speed:
- Can your router/modem handle your speeds and devices?
- How many users are on the network at the time you’re using it?
- How much speed you’re receiving vs. how much was advertised
- What types of activities are you doing? Gaming or browsing?
Consider the types of equipment you’re using and whether it’s compatible with your internet plan speeds. Speaking of those speeds, many providers are advertising the highest speed you can go versus the speed you’ll be reaching consistently, much like a speed limit.
Those speeds are also dependent on what you’re using the internet for. If you’re consistently participating in high-bandwidth activities like gaming and video streaming on multiple devices, lower internet speeds won’t take you very far through the month.
