Midco internet and Midco TV services are available to residents across a number of Midwestern states. Midco plans start at $49/mo. with speeds from 250 Mbps to 1 Gig.

Midco summary

Launched as a partnership between Midcontinent Media and Comcast, Midco offers high-speed internet services that far surpass many competitors. The service is available in rural areas as well as some large cities across a number of states, including North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Kansas. The service offers affordable prices, fast speeds and no data caps.

Things to consider

  • Slower upload speeds: Midco’s upload speeds range from 10 to 50 Mbps. Their fiber plans offer symmetrical speeds, however.

  • Fees: Midco does have monthly fees for equipment rentals and a one-time install fee of $100.

Midco internet plans and price comparison

Midco offers a wide variety of plans that offer different levels of download speeds. The company offers competitive prices for broadband internet connection, with speeds that are comparable to other national providers that are available in the region. Spectrum is the closest comparable option, with no data caps and similar price tiers. Other options like AT&T and Cox have more restrictive monthly data caps.

Allconnect’s favorite Midco internet plan: The 500 

While many of the Midco internet plans offer solid value, our favorite option is the 500 plan. This offers high-end download speeds that should be capable of supporting the simultaneous use of multiple devices and streaming content in 4K and HD. There is no data cap, so you can stream to your heart’s content each month. At $59/mo., the price is competitive with other service providers.

If speed is your primary need, it is worth considering upgrading to the 1 Gig plan at a reasonable $70/mo. This offers gigabit download speeds and significantly speedier upload speeds, as well. It is ideal for households with multiple people streaming or doing data-heavy activities like gaming. It is also great for households with many internet-connected devices.

Midco availability and coverage

Midco service over 480,000 people in five Midwestern states. The company offers internet, TV, and phone service, but not all services are available in all areas.

Midco has expansion plans for 30 cities and towns within the five states, including Grand Forks, ND; Kansas City, KS; and Sioux Falls, SD. The company is taking pre-orders for service in its expansion areas. Their main competitors are T-Mobile, Spectrum, Xfinity, CenturyLink and AT&T.

Midco contracts, equipment and fees

While most ISPs advertise what your monthly service cost will be, there are often additional fees that may come up in the form of contract agreements, fees and equipment rentals. Midco is no exception. Here are some of the additional costs that might catch you off guard:

Midco contracts

While some ISPs will try to lock you into a long-term contract, Midco does not require a contract. You will pay on a month-by-month basis. This allows you to change your service any time without needing to pay an additional fee.  

Midco equipment

Midco does require subscribers to either use their own router and modem or lease the equipment from the company. Buying your own router and modem can cost more upfront but will lower your monthly expenses. Leasing equipment from Midco will cost additional fees each month.

Midco fees

Midco offers the ability to install service on your own or have a professional come set up everything for you. If you choose the latter, there is an additional fee that you will have to pay. Self-installation does not require any additional fee.

Midco cable and bundling options

In addition to broadband internet service, Midco also offers cable TV service that can be bundled with an internet package. Midco offers a variety of cable TV packages that includes local networks only, premium cable networks or streaming services like Max. Midco also offers a streaming TV solution called MidcoTV that is available via internet rather than cable, similar to services like YouTube TV and Sling TV. Phone bundles are also available. MidcoTV streaming offers up to 182 channels and starts at $50/mo.

Midco internet vs top competitors

Midco offers competitive prices and fast, reliable download speeds. Additional fees for equipment can make the service more expensive, but Midco does not require a long-term contract and has no data cap, making it a solid value. Because it serves rural areas, it also is a good value for those who may not otherwise be able to get broadband internet in their region.

Midco is not scored on the American Customer Satisfaction List, but every internet service provider gets complaints, and Midco is no exception. However, the company is generally well-liked by its customers. Reliable speeds, affordable pricing and service in rural areas have made the company a solid option for many customers in the Midwest.
