About Consolidated Communications internet

Consolidated Communications advertises itself as “the future of broadband.” The internet service offers speeds from 50 Mbps to 2 Gbps depending on the area, with three plan tiers that have prices to match different speeds.  

Consolidated Communications also recently acquired Fairpoint Communications.  

For ease in considering Consolidated internet, below are some of the main pros and cons to this service:

The $33/mo. rate on the starting plan makes it a very competitive rate in a market where many provider base plans are in the $50/mo. range. It’s also worth noting that the price between the 250 Mbps and 1 Gig plans is only a difference of $10/mo., while you’re more than doubling your data speed. The speed levels also get you anything from basic internet usage like browsing and checking emails to being able to use multiple streaming devices without buffering.

The 1 Gig Plan for $55/mo. offers the highest amount of speed through Consolidated Communications for a price point that places it much lower than many of its competitors for the price to speed. 

Consolidated Communications contracts, equipment and fees

While listed prices can look appealing, you also have to keep in mind contract terms and additional fees. It’s important to note fees and contract terms change by area.

Consolidated Communications contracts

The prices you see listed only apply for the first year and involve a one-year term commitment, though other areas may be a two-year term or different. There is an early termination fee of $99 for internet service in some areas. The agreement terms state that you can select a month-to-month option or a specified yearly term.

Consolidated Communications equipment

With Consolidated Communications, customers have to add the Network Care Plus Wired plan for $6.95/mo. or the Wireless network care plan for $11.95/mo. in some areas. This includes troubleshooting and related support for the modem, and only for the Consolidated Communications provided modem or gateway.

In addition to the care plan fees, there is a $2.97/mo.* Broadband Cost Recovery Fee per month per internet connection in some areas. Consolidated Communications also lists that other terms, conditions, taxes and equipment charges may apply. Some of the fees mentioned in the agreement terms are applicable taxes, surcharges, recovery fees, telephone charges, activation fees, installation fees, set-up fees, equipment charges, lease charges and others.
