Rise Broadband’s fixed wireless internet provides speeds between 25 Mbps and 100 Mbps, making it comparable to DSL and some cable plans. The provider also offers fiber plans up to 1 gig. Our methodology

We evaluate broadband providers in four categories: affordability, performance, value and customer satisfaction.

We evaluate broadband providers in four categories: affordability, performance, value and customer satisfaction. Each category contains multiple sub-factors, all of which are weighted differently to impact the provider’s overall score.

For each sub-factor, we score all providers on a continuous scale of one to five, relative to the industry as a whole. Because the average download speed in America is currently 180 Mbps, for example, we assigned all plans with download speeds between 100 and 299 Mbps a score between three and four. Xfinity’s 200 Mbps plan received a 3.50 score for download speed, while Spectrum’s 500 Mbps plan got a 3.71.

We only considered standardized data points in our scoring system. More abstract data like consistency of service and brand reputation is still part of our analysis, but we opted to let our writers address them in the context of each review.

Rise Broadband contracts, equipment and fees

Like any ISP, it’s important to read the fine print on services offered by Rise Broadband. Although Rise Broadband internet offers flexibility in terms of the length of time on the contract, there are additional fees to consider that can rack up your bill. You can expect to pay about $150 for installation as well as $10/mo. for equipment. For fiber, the installation fee is $75.  

Rise Broadband contracts

Signing a lengthy contract with an ISP can be scary, especially if you’re unsure how fast the internet speeds are and whether you’ll need to change your internet provider later on. Fortunately with Rise Broadband, customers aren’t obligated to sign a year or two-year contract if you aren’t sure.

Rise Broadband offers a month-to-month option and a one-year or two-year option for service. With a monthly option, there is no commitment, but your monthly rates will be higher. Selecting a one or two-year contract can help lower your monthly rates and lock in a price for your contractual agreement period.

Rise Broadband equipment

Although you can have your own modem and router to connect with Rise Broadband, you will need to use their antenna. Rise Broadband requires a specific antenna to use the service. The antenna must also be placed and calibrated so one of the ISP’s technicians will install the equipment for an additional $150.

Equipment fees are one of Rise Broadband’s additional fees and charges. The equipment fee is $10 a month which includes the antenna. If you decide to cancel your service with Rise Broadband, you’ll have to return the equipment by mailing it in or you will be charged a non-return equipment fee of up to $300. 

Rise Broadband fees

Like all ISPs, Rise Broadband also comes with a lengthy list of fees and charges that can cost you a lot on your monthly bill if you aren’t prepared. For example, if you cancel your contract with Rise Broadband internet, you’ll be charged an early termination fee of about $10 for every month that is left on your contract.

Other fees include a one-time installation fee of $150, an equipment lease fee of $10 per month, late payment fee of $20 per month that is past due, and a data overage fee of $5 for every 10 GB over. Lastly, if you lose your equipment or fail to return it, you’ll be charged up to $300. From a glance, high-speed internet may look cheap, but be sure to learn about all of the other costs associated with an ISP.

Rise Broadband availability 

Rise Broadband is available throughout rural and suburban regions of the Mid and Southwest and the Rocky Mountains. The states that Rise Broadband provides service to include Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Rise Broadband bundling or TV service

Rise Broadband offers bundling services for phone and internet. You can bundle a residential phone service to your internet plan to make calls directly through your internet. Rise Broadband’s bundling deal allows you to make unlimited domestic and free international calls to 64 countries. 

Regarding TV service, Rise Broadband does not offer any bundling deals. However, Rise partners with MyBundle.TV so you can bundle a third-party TV plan with your Rise internet, depending on your location. If you’re looking for a cable TV alternative, streaming TV services such as Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV are great ways to cut the cord and stream. 

Rise Broadband vs. top competitors

Fixed wireless providers like T-Mobile and Verizon 5G Home Internet have widespread availability and faster speed options. Rise Broadband also falls behind competitors with its data caps. While its competitors offer no data caps, Rise Broadband offers the option for unlimited data on its plans for an extra fee or as a more expensive plan. 

Using fixed wireless internet

If you’re in an area without fiber or cable internet, you may want to look into a fixed wireless internet connection like Rise Broadband. It’s a great option for areas that don’t have access to other providers and offers some plan variety. Remember, you need to be in close proximity to a tower and its speeds are slower than traditional cable connections.
