Our internet experts explain the features and benefits of Cox’s Panoramic Wifi to ensure a smooth online experience for all your devices.
What is Cox Panoramic Wifi?
Cox’s Panoramic Wifi works differently from typical home internet equipment. It’s a two-in-one gateway that functions as a router and a modem. In addition, the speed and connectivity issues you may experience if you’re located in a Wi-Fi dead zone, such as a second-floor corner bedroom or the basement, may be solved. Adding the Cox Panoramic Wifi Pods can extend your reception. Best of all, the pods easily plug into a nearby wall outlet to strengthen and transmit the signal you receive from your router/modem combo.
The latest 5G speeds up your internet considerably but may not be compatible with some popular devices, such as certain webcams or older smart home devices. Fortunately, the Cox Panoramic Wifi modem is a dual-band router that allows you to connect with 5G or standard broadband. When setting up your home network, you’ll find two similarly named networks to connect to. Join either of the two. Cox typically ends the faster network with “5G” so you know which one is which.
How to get Cox Panoramic Wifi Gateway
You can bundle internet and Panoramic Wifi for an extra $13/mo. when you pick your internet plan. You can also add it to your current plan at any time. The Panoramic Wifi Gateway cannot be purchased from Cox and is only available for the monthly rental fee.
Cox Panoramic Wifi app
Besides the Cox home gateway and pod, you can download and use the Cox Panoramic Wifi app on your smartphone for free. The app allows you to do the basics, such as viewing billing info, checking out your internet usage and activity or contacting support. A couple of the top features of the Cox Panoramic Wifi mobile app are:
- Enhanced security – You can monitor your home’s network in the past 24 hours by viewing user profiles and devices that connected to your gateway. It comes in handy to find anyone who may be spying on your internet activity or has figured out your network’s passcode and is using your home internet
- Parental controls – The internet is a wide-open space overloaded with all sorts of information. Limiting your kids’ exposure to certain types of information is a healthy parental decision. Using the Cox Panaromic Wifi app, you can access the network from your phone remotely to set limits on when and how long your kids can go online, as well as block websites you don’t want your kids to access
Who can benefit from Cox Panoramic Wifi?
The Cox Panoramic Wifi modem is a great option for gamers who want to avoid interruptions while they’re playing. The device sends out a stronger signal and is compatible with pods that can be plugged in throughout the home to strengthen the Wi-Fi signal for higher speeds and less latency.
One of the biggest frustrations for gamers is lag time due to slow speeds or an unstable internet connection (one that tends to drop off). Cox already made progress with gamers by offering Elite Gamer service that optimizes your home internet connection to reduce the number of jitter/ping spikes and overall latency.
Other groups that benefit from Cox Panoramic Wifi
The Cox modem can provide your smart home with consistent, strong signals while powering your work-from-home residents, learners, streamers and more.
If you have a lot of guests or use your home as a short-term rental, Cox’s Panoramic Wifi Gateway is enabled as a hotspot. This allows you to add separate passwords for guest Wi-Fi access and control every user on your network.
Coverage extensions with Cox Panoramic Wifi Pods
The system’s pods look like small boxes that plug into any wall outlet. They’re essentially Wi-Fi extenders that are simple to set up and use. They convert the existing Wi-Fi signal into a stronger broadband connection. The Cox Wifi Panoramic Pods cost $129.99 per pod, and unlike the Panoramic modem/router, they cannot be rented — they must be purchased.
Need a Cox internet plan?
The foundation of Cox’s Panoramic Gateway is the internet plan you choose. Cox internet offers five speed-based options between 100 Mbps and 2,000 Mbps. The best one for your home’s use depends on how many devices you plan on using at once and your activity levels.
