Cox is an internet service provider (ISP) providing service in the 19 states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Virginia.

The ISP now offers a new device called Cox Panoramic Wifi that promises faster speeds and “wall to wall” service. That’s good news for homeowners or renters that live in a multi-story house and struggle to have a good, reliable signal when they’re far away from the router.

What exactly does Cox Panoramic Wifi do?

Cox’s Panoramic Wifi works differently from typical home internet equipment. It’s a two-in-one gateway that functions as a router and a modem. In addition, the speed and connectivity issues you may experience if you’re located in a Wifi dead zone such as a second-floor corner bedroom or the basement may be solved. Adding the Cox Panoramic Wifi Pods can extend your reception. Best of all, pods easily plug into a nearby wall outlet to strengthen and transmit the signal you receive from your router/modem combo.

The latest 5G speeds up your internet considerably, but may not be compatible with some of the most popular devices available, such as certain webcams or older smart home devices. Fortunately, the Cox Panoramic Wifi modem is a dual-band router that allows you to connect with 5G — or with standard broadband. When you’re setting up your home network, you’ll find that two similarly-named networks will be available to connect to. Join either of the two. Cox typically ends the faster network with “5G” so you know which one is which.

If the Cox Panoramic device sounds like it would be a good fit for your household, the only option available is to rent the wifi box from the company. Cox charges $12/mo., but offers a 30-day money-back guarantee if you change your mind or decide you’re not happy with the device.

Cox Panoramic Wifi app

Besides the Cox home gateway and pod, you can download and use the Cox Panoramic app on your smartphone for free. The app allows you to do the basics, such as viewing billing, check out your internet usage and activity, or contact support. A couple of the top features of the Panoramic Wifi mobile app are:

  • Enhanced security: You can monitor your home’s network in the past 24 hours by viewing user profiles and devices that connected to your gateway. It comes in handy to find anyone who may be spying on your internet activity or figured out your network’s passcode and has been using your home internet.
  • Parental control: The internet is a wide-open space overloaded with all sorts of information. Limiting your kids’ exposure to certain types of information is a healthy parental decision. Using the Cox Panaromic Wifi app, you can access the network from your phone remotely to set limits on when and how long your kids can go online, as well as block websites you don’t want your kids to access.

Cox Panoramic Wifi is great for Gamers

One of the biggest frustrations for gamers is lag time due to slow speeds or an unstable internet connection (one that tends to drop off). Cox already made progress with gamers by offering Elite Gamer service that optimizes your home internet connection to reduce the number of jitter/ping spikes and overall latency.

The Cox Panoramic Wifi modem is a great option for gamers who want to avoid interruptions while they’re playing. The device sends out a stronger signal and as mentioned, is compatible with pods that can be plugged in throughout the home to strengthen the Wifi signal for higher speeds and less latency.

Need more coverage with Cox Panoramic Wifi? You can purchase pods

The system’s pods look like small boxes that plug into any wall outlet. They’re essentially Wi-i extenders that are simple to set up and use and accept the Panoramic’s signals to convert it into stronger broadband. Panoramic Pods cost $129.99 per pod and unlike the Panoramic modem/router, they cannot be rented — they must be purchased.

Need a Cox internet plan?

The foundation of Cox’s Panoramic Gateway is the internet plan you choose. Cox has five speed-based options between 25 Mbps and 940 Mbps. The best one for your home’s use depends on how many devices you plan on using at once and your activity levels.

Panoramic Wifi Advanced Security blocks unknown connections so your home network remains private and safe. In addition, it monitors your online activities and blocks or restricts questionable URLs.

You may not be allowed to buy the Panoramic Wifi box, but it’s available for rent. The current rate is $12 per month.

Cox internet services vary in price from one area to another. To give you an idea of how much Cox service costs, the cheapest plan is $29.99 in Las Vegas, NV.
