With 5 gigabits of bandwidth, customers can achieve equal upload and download speeds of up to 4,700 Mbps, making it possible to stream high-definition video, work, play and do virtually anything on numerous devices simultaneously.

AT&T’s 5 Gig fiber plan is one of the fastest residential internet plans on the market, so it’s no surprise it comes at a premium price of $250/mo. This level of internet speed may not be for everyone. With its 5 gigabit internet plan, AT&T now offers one of the fastest connections on the market. But AT&T isn’t the only company offering 5 Gig internet plans; some of its competitors offer similar bandwidth at a lower price point. Keep in mind, though, that not all plans are available in every area, and advertised speeds will vary by location.

AT&T’s closest competitors for 5 Gig internet plans are Xfinity and Frontier. Frontier has AT&T beat on price and advertises slightly higher maximum speeds. Xfinity, meanwhile, can reach as high as 6,000 Mbps in some areas. However, at nearly $300/mo., it comes with a much higher price tag. AT&T’s fiber internet plans are currently available in select metro areas in 21 states, and its 5 Gig internet plans have rolled out within a smaller segment of those markets. According to AT&T, its 2 Gig and 5 Gig speeds are currently available to at least 7 million customers.
AT&T’s fiber availability stacks up reasonably well against its main high-speed competitors. Frontier’s fiber plan is currently available in 17 states, while Xfinity doesn’t clarify how many of its 40 states offer fiber coverage.

AT&T’s 5 Gig internet plan is one of the fastest options for residential customers, and its price falls between some of its closest competitors. If you have a lot of people in your household that need to stream high-definition video, play video games or host virtual business calls, this might be a good option for you.
