Disney+ has started integrating Hulu into its streaming platform to entice consumers to upgrade to the Disney+ and Hulu bundle. This will give bundle subscribers access to Hulu’s entire content library for viewing on Disney+.
Disney successfully launched a beta version of this merge in early December. The full launch of Hulu on Disney+ is expected for the spring of 2024.
So, what does this mean for you?
For starters, it will combine Hulu and Disney+ content into one spot, eliminating the need to jump back and forth between platforms.
When viewers open their Disney+ platform, they will see a Hulu icon next to the Pixar, Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic tiles. Clicking on the Hulu tile will bring users to a Hulu hub where they can choose from Hulu’s library of content to watch on Disney+.
Disney hopes to continue catering to its young audience while also responding to consumer demand for “kid time, we time and me time,” according to Joe Earley, Disney Entertainment’s President of Direct-to-Consumer.
“I want incredible stuff for my kids, I want to watch things as a family, and then I want to put the kids to bed and watch things that are more adult in nature,” he said.
Disney also hopes to increase consumer engagement by having more content available in one place.
“It’s an unbelievable value in terms of the price point for the Bundle, to get all this content in one place,” said Earley.
Even though Hulu on Disney+ is for bundle subscribers only, the standalone versions of the platforms are still available. But with the competitive price of the Hulu and Disney+ bundles on both platforms, Disney hopes to entice consumers to upgrade.
“Beyond unlocking that experience for our existing Bundle subscribers, our hope is to inspire Disney+ and Hulu standalone subscribers to upgrade to the Bundle as well, once they see everything that can be accessed,” said Earley.
The official launch of Hulu on Disney+ is lined up for March 2024.
