What do Hughesnet customers think?
Slower speeds are why most satellite providers score lower than cable or fiber providers.
Hughesnet is a satellite internet service provider. Hughesnet scored low across the board regarding price, speed, reliability and customer service — but it’s important to note that satellite providers will provide less speed than fiber and cable providers and usually have high prices. Satellite internet providers like Hughesnet are often the only internet option for those living in rural areas with limited internet access. Hughesnet customers scored the ISP the highest in customer service, followed by reliability.
- Price: 2.5/5. Satellite is a bit pricier than other internet connection types due to the equipment and setup in often remote areas
- Speed: 2.4/5. Satellite connection speeds are generally lower than other connection types because of the long distance the signals must travel. Lower orbit systems like Starlink can generate more speed, but cannot equal the gig speed of a hardwired fiber connection
- Reliability: 2.5/5. Satellite internet performance is vulnerable to weather conditions
- Customer service: 2.9/5. Most internet service providers have a lower score for customer service

Streaming is good as long as there is no traffic. Stream anything quickly and reliably in the middle of a work day. After dinner time or on weekends, even with a clear sky, it is almost impossible to watch anything on a streaming service. This has more to do with the number of customers. I will not renew my contract. I’d rather go without internet than this experience.

Hughesnet got our satellite Internet installed within a week of calling to schedule it. The technician was professional, and communicated effectively to let us know his schedule and didn’t keep us waiting around. He was also able to mount the satellite on a pole vs on the roof for an extra fee, as we requested not to have it roof mounted. The internet and Wi-Fi both work well so far.

The young man who came out to install it was very professional, very friendly, and very helpful in teaching me how to use it.

Do not get! I’m paying for absolutely nothing. You’re better off walking to the road for cell phone service. Expect up charge on a post even if you have three already and be ready to dig.

If it rains, no internet. Without rain, only intermittent to none 90 percent of time. I have elite, almost $120 a month. Forget ever playing a game online. Horrible!

My internet service is terrible. It’s a waste of money.

The absolute worst internet I’ve experienced in my life, don’t do it! There hasn’t been one month, one week, one day, one hour, one show, that hasn’t buffered at least 50 times, 24/7. And they have the nerve to charge me $80 a month for this! And say I run out of unlimited data.
