Find business internet services in your area
- Availability: Some internet service providers don’t offer business internet in all their coverage areas. Allconnect can help you navigate your options.
- Number of employees: How many employees will be accessing the internet at the same time? This will determine what speed you’ll need.
- Download and upload speeds: When providers advertise their speed plans, they tend to only talk about download speeds. However, both upload and download speeds are essential for running a business. Download speed is how quickly information is received by your router, like when you get search results or receive an email. Upload speed refers to how quickly your system can load an image or file onto a web server.

The listed internet providers are some of the most widely available and well-rated providers throughout the U.S. You can expect at least one of these providers to be available in your area, unless you live in a particularly remote area. If none of these providers are available, consider a DSL or satellite provider, knowing these are not ideal for large businesses that require a lot of bandwidth.

What internet speeds does your business need?
The size and nature of your business will determine the required internet speed. Fiber is often your best bet for your business internet connection because the upload speeds are symmetrical with your download speeds. That makes it possible for you to upload documents, share presentations to multiple devices, etc., much faster than other types of internet. Use the tabs below to explore needs and recommended internet plans for business by size.
– 50 – 100 Mbps+ is sufficient for small teams
– Cable or fiber are good options for point-of-sale (POS) systems, email, cloud backup
– Look for business plans with 24/7 customer support
– 200 – 500 Mbps+ speed required
– Can support HD/4K streaming (e.g., video conferences), security, large file transfers
– Look for scalability — can the service grow with your business?
– 24/7 customer and tech support recommended
– 1,000 Mbps+ fiber plans are suggested
– Supports same tasks as small and medium businesses, but with heavier traffic/higher demand
– Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for guaranteed uptime
– Failover (4G/5G backup/standby) if primary system is down
– Multi-gig fiber speeds are necessary
– Plan supports hosting services and multi-functional business needs
– VPN support for remote work
– Dedicated account manager/point person for all your business needs

What to consider for your business internet speeds
The best business internet is tailored to the number of users and the work type of your company. General guidelines suggest 10 – 25 Mbps per user; however, since employees often use multiple Wi-Fi devices, headcount alone may not be accurate. Upload speed can also be crucial, especially for businesses that rely on video calls and cloud-based tools.
- Large business internet needs: Fiber is best for multiple users and a multi-gig plan will keep everything running smoothly. Redundancy/failover options are key, as well as uptime guarantees and 24/7 technical support
- Small business internet needs: Cable, 5G home internet and some satellite plans may work just fine for a small business that is not internet-based. If you have under 10 employees accessing the internet simultaneously, a 300 to 500 Mbps plan would suffice
Do all businesses need business internet?
Business internet is generally faster than residential plans allow, especially when it comes to upload speeds. Business plans include service-level agreements for tech support, and you will get a dedicated line. Some small businesses may not require business internet speeds. This will depend on the number of people the internet is supporting.
Bundling business internet plans
Just as you can save on your monthly bill by bundling your home internet with mobile or TV, it’s also possible to bundle your business internet with phone service to get discounts and additional benefits.
All five of the business internet providers we’ve compared offer internet and phone bundles. Various perks include reward cards, price guarantees, unlimited local and long-distance calling, convenient apps and advanced security.
Business vs. residential internet
The main difference between business and residential internet is speed and price.
Business internet service caters to the needs of a business or organization, meaning it may offer superior reliability and performance, enhanced security features and dedicated tech and customer support. Business internet plans are usually much faster, since they have to support more people, devices and operations than the average family home.
Residential internet service is meant for people who use the internet for personal purposes, such as entertainment, working from home, browsing online or any other daily activity requiring an internet connection. Residential plans tend to be more affordable, with basic tech and customer support and standard security features.
