YouTube TV at-a-glance

What is YouTube TV?

YouTube TV is a streaming service that lets you watch live TV programming from 85+ channels using an internet connection and a supported device. The impressive YouTube TV channel list is the main highlight of the service, especially with a robust lineup of sports programming. Besides a few other local sports channels, it also offers regional FOX Sports networks. This makes it among the few streaming services to offer them at the time of writing this post.

In addition, the service also offers other standout features. For instance, it gives you unlimited cloud DVR storage so you can record live TV programming and save it for up to nine months. Leading competitors such as Hulu + Live TV and Sling TV offer limited storage space, so YouTube TV stands out when it comes to this.

What is the full YouTube TV channels list?

At $64.99/mo., YouTube TV costs more than most of the leading live TV streaming services. But you also get a lot more channels at over 85, while most services typically have about 50-70. And you get to try out all these YouTube TV live TV channels for free for seven days to see if it fits your streaming needs.

Does YouTube TV have on-demand content?

With your YouTube TV subscription, you get a massive library of on-demand content from the 85+ channels in its lineup. This typically consists of recent shows and older seasons of popular TV series, although YouTube TV doesn’t specify the actual number of titles. Plus, you also get access to plenty of on-demand movies from many of the entertainment channels.

While you get most of this on-demand content lineup at no additional cost, you need to pay for access to movies and shows from the add-on services and channels. The cost will vary depending on which add-on you want to get.

How does the YouTube TV channels list compare to others?

Compared to all the leading live TV streaming services like Hulu + Live TV and Sling TV, YouTube TV has one of the most comprehensive channel lineups across all categories. Even though it lacks a few leading cable networks, it still stands apart from the competition and rightfully scored a 9.1 in channel lineup in our YouTube TV review.

For entertainment

YouTube TV has a solid lineup of entertainment and lifestyle channels, holding up quite well to the competition. It has most of the leading channels such as AMC, Bravo, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, FX, HGTV, Investigation Discovery and Paramount Network.

So although it lacks channels like A&E, Hallmark, History and Lifetime, it still has almost everything that an entertainment fan would need.

For families with kids

When it comes to family programming, YouTube TV stands out from the rest. It not only has everything from the Disney channel slate but also offers Cartoon Network, Freeform, Nickelodeon and Universal Kids. In addition, it’s currently the only streaming service to offer PBS Kids, even if only in select markets.

For sports lovers

Other services can’t really compare to YouTube TV when it comes to sports programming. The service gives you access to the ESPN channel slate including ACC Network, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPNU and SEC Network. Besides this, you also get major sports channels like CBS Sports Network, FS1, FS2, MLB Network and NBA TV.

More importantly, you get most of the regional sports channels from FOX Sports and NBCSN. This makes it one of only three streaming services that offer regional FOX Sports channels along with AT&T TV NOW and Hulu + Live TV.

For news

With a robust offering of leading networks and regional channels, YouTube TV measures up to the competition even when it comes to news programming. You get major news channels like ABC News Live, BBC World News, Cheddar, CNBC, CNN and MSNBC. And you also get regional news programming from leading networks. That’s more than what most streaming services offer.

For price

Price-wise, YouTube TV is on the higher end of the spectrum as most live TV streaming services cost around $50-$55/mo. Even then, the $64.55/mo. price tag could be well worth the robust sports and news channel lineup and impressive features.

How does YouTube TV work?

YouTube TV provides access to live TV channels over the internet on a monthly subscription basis. And you need a compatible device to enjoy streaming on the service. Besides your laptop and desktop browser, YouTube TV currently works with the following devices:

  • Airplay for Apple TV
  • Amazon Fire TV devices (select models)
  • Android phones and tablets (L or later)
  • Android TVs
  • Apple TV and Apple TV 4K
  • Chromecast
  • Google Smart Display TVs
  • HiSense TVs
  • iPhones and iPads (iOS 10 or later)
  • Roku players
  • Samsung and LG smart TVs
