At Allconnect, we work to present quality information with editorial integrity. While this post may contain offers from our partners, our opinions are our own. Here’s how we make money.

Philo is another streaming TV option in a competitive market featuring Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV NOW and Sling TV. A Philo subscription is less expensive than its competitors and provides some good Philo deals — but it also has a smaller channel lineup.

If you’re into alternative viewing and won’t miss tuning in to the major networks or sports channels, you may like what Philo offers. If you’re not sure if the savings are worth foregoing the most popular channels, you can sign up for a Philo free trial to test the waters first. Here’s more on how to get a Philo free trial and information on what deals does Philo offer.

Philo free trials at-a-glance

Philo free trial

How does it work?

The Philo free trial is pretty simple but is technically a two-day free trial with the option to extend for another five days. You’ll need to sign up using a mobile phone number or an email address. You won’t have to provide payment information just yet. After a couple of days, you’ll receive a reminder from Philo asking if you’d like to continue with the free trial. If you do, you’ll need to enter your payment information. You’ll have another five days of access. If you don’t cancel after seven days, your subscription for $20/mo. automatically starts.

Who is eligible?

New customers are eligible to sign up for the free trial. You’ll need to provide your mobile number or email address to get started. Prepare to enter payment information when you’re two days into the free trial to extend it for the full week.

Price after free trial

If you decide to keep Philo after the week trial, you’ll be automatically upgraded to the regular subscription of $20/mo.

Who is it best for?

Philo offers a smaller lineup than other live and on-demand TV services. It’s best for viewers who aren’t concerned about missing out on what their local news channels have to say. The service doesn’t include networks, such as ABC, CBS or any sports channels. Viewers interested in reality TV shows and catching up on movies may be happy with channels such as The Food Network, TLC, A&E, HGTV and MTV.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • You can’t beat the price. Philo is only $20/mo. before any Philo deals.
  • The unlimited DVR feature lets you save all your favorite shows to view later.
  • Kids have access to four Nickelodeon channels, as well as Discovery Family and Animal Planet.

Cons

  • The viewing options are limited to 61 less-popular channels.
  • No broadcast or sports channels. You won’t have access to local news or sports.
  • There are just two add-ons available at this time — Epix and STARZ. They’ll add $15/mo. to your bill.

Philo deals and discounts

There are no deals on Philo at this time. Luckily, a Philo subscription is $20, easily a third less compared to some of the bigger on-demand and live TV competitors. Take advantage of the free trial to get a week for free and check back for updates on Philo deals.
