Hulu free trials
How does it work?
Hulu’s trial works in a similar way to other streaming services. First, you’ll need to sign up via Hulu’s website. Personal information like an email address is required along with payment details. Don’t panic, though, because you won’t get charged unless you forget to cancel. However, you may see a $1 charge on your card statement. This is an authorization charge that is automatically refunded by Hulu.
Once you’ve signed up, you’ll have seven days to enjoy Hulu’s live TV trial or a month to enjoy the on-demand catalog for free. You’ll get all the same features as a regular subscriber, including 50 hours of DVR storage and two simultaneous streams. If you’re not loving the way Hulu works, simply cancel your subscription before your trial finishes. Note that you’ll be immediately locked out of Hulu as soon as you cancel, so you may as well wait until the very last day.
Who is eligible?
People who’ve never subscribed to Hulu before are eligible for a free trial. So are certain returning subscribers. Unfortunately, no one’s sure what makes a returning subscriber eligible. Some think it’s people who’ve been unsubscribed from Hulu for six months; others say it’s people who left the service more than a year ago. If you’ve tried Hulu in the past and want to try it again, reach out to the platform to check if you’re able to.
Price after free trial
If you only want to watch Hulu’s on-demand content, you can embark on a month-long free trial. After that, you’ll pay $5.99/mo. for the standard package or $11.99/mo. for the ad-free option. Live TV customers, however, can only try the service for free for a week. Once that free trial’s over, the monthly cost works out to $54.99/mo. You can get an ad-free option for $60.99/mo., but the commercials will only be removed from select on-demand titles. You’ll be billed on the day your free trial ends, and future bills will arrive on the same day each month.
Premium networks, like HBO and Showtime, also come with a seven-day free trial. Prices vary, depending on the channel. Cinemax costs $9.99/mo., HBO Max is $14.99/mo., Showtime costs $10.99/mo. and Starz is $8.99/mo.
Who is it best for?
Super into your network shows? Love to binge-watch an entire season or movie franchise with family and friends? Then Hulu’s on-demand plan is probably right for you. It may not be as big as that of rival services, Netflix and Amazon Prime, but the highly-rated original content certainly makes up for it.
Those who can’t live without live TV will obviously want to check out Hulu’s more expensive package. Whether you like to watch the day’s news live or catch a game the minute it airs, Hulu + Live TV is well worth a try. Don’t forget you get the added bonus of on-demand content, too.
Pros and cons
- You get a full Hulu experience with every free trial
- The free trial is easy to cancel
- Premium extras can be tried for free too
- Free trial lengths differ, depending on your chosen plan
- Payment details are required before you can begin a free trial
- No email reminder is sent before your free trial ends, meaning you could forget to cancel
Hulu deals and discounts
Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu bundle
For the ultimate source of entertainment, look to the $12.99/mo. Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu bundle. Save 25% while experiencing family-friendly fun, live sports and your favorite network content. Only Hulu’s ad-supported, on-demand plan is included in this price, but a No Ads upgrade is available for $18.99/mo. Hulu’s live TV package is also available for an adjusted monthly fee of $61.99/mo.
Spotify Premium for Students deal
Students with a passion for music and TV can combine the two with a Spotify and Hulu bundle. For just $4.99/mo., eligible students can get Spotify Premium, Hulu and Showtime. You’ll only be able to access Hulu’s ad-supported, on-demand package with this deal, but can watch all the content Showtime has to offer too. Students must be over the age of 18 and enrolled in a U.S. Title IV accredited college or university.
Members of the military can get Hulu’s cheapest plan for less. Both new and eligible returning subscribers can receive a 10% Hulu discount off the monthly fee for up to a year. You can find the Hulu sign up link for service members through the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.
Sprint Unlimited deal
Any customer using a Sprint Unlimited plan can access Hulu’s on-demand library for free. The deal is available to both new and existing Sprint users.
How much is Hulu?
Hulu has two main plans, and each comes with the option to remove ads from on-demand content. The on-demand only package costs $5.99/mo. or $11.99/mo. ad-free.
How much is Hulu + Live TV?
Hulu’s live TV plan is more expensive than the on-demand only option. It costs $54.99/mo. with ads and $60.99/mo. without commercials.
How can I get Hulu for free?
The only way to access Hulu for free is by starting a free trial. If you’re interested in Hulu’s live TV trial, you can start a seven-day one. The cheaper on-demand plan comes with a month-long free trial. Once the trial’s over, you’ll have to pay to use the service.
How do I activate Hulu with Spotify?
If you don’t have Hulu, head to your Spotify account to activate the Spotify Premium for Students and Hulu deal. Under Account Overview, select Activate Hulu. If you already have separate Hulu and Spotify accounts, make sure your Hulu subscription is billed directly through your Hulu account and that you use the same email to log into both Hulu and Spotify. You can then activate Hulu via your Spotify account.
Is Hulu better than Netflix?
Netflix wins when it comes to on-demand titles. It currently has more than double Hulu’s total. But Netflix doesn’t offer any way to watch live TV. So if you’re a major sports fan or a person that can’t wait to watch an episode as soon as it airs, you’re better off with Hulu.
