Verizon Fios internet plans and pricing

Verizon Fios internet plans come with three download/upload speed options: 300/300 Mbps, 500/500 Mbps and up to 940/880 Mbps. If you’ve shopped for Verizon internet packages in the past, you may have seen 100 and 200 Mbps plans instead. Those plans are no longer available as Verizon recently increased their Fios speed tiers (without raising the starting price). While Verizon pricing and speeds may vary based on where you live, a Verizon Fios internet plan is one of your best options without having to sign an annual contract.

By our analysis, Verizon Fios internet plans grade out as one of the best in the country — just behind AT&T’s fiber optic plans. Verizon Fios has no hidden fees, no annual contracts, no extra charges for required equipment and your price is guaranteed for up to four years with your Fios Gigabit Connection.

Verizon internet packages run exclusively on a fiber network, meaning you’ll get the fastest and most reliable connection possible.

But unlike a lot of providers, with Verizon Fios you won’t have to pay a fortune for that speed. Prices for internet-only plans start at $49.99/mo., and your bill won’t go up after a “promotion” period ends. It’s that combination of affordability and performance that earned Verizon home internet a 75 out of 100 in 2023’s American Customer Satisfaction Index.

How we scored internet providers

We evaluate broadband providers in four categories: affordability, performance, value and customer satisfaction. Each category contains multiple sub-factors, all of which are weighted differently to impact the provider’s overall score.

For each sub-factor, we score all providers on a continuous scale of 1 to 5, relative to the industry as a whole. Because the average download speed in America is currently 180 Mbps, for example, we assigned all plans with download speeds between 100 and 299 Mbps a score between 3 and 4. Xfinity’s 200 Mbps plan received a 3.50 score for download speed, while Spectrum’s 400 Mbps plan got a 4.16.

We only considered standardized data points in our scoring system. More abstract data like consistency of service and brand reputation is still part of our analysis, but we opted to let our writers address them in the context of each review.

What we like about Verizon internet

  • Simple pricing – There are no surprise fees on you monthly bill with Verizon. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying for.

  • No data caps –  Verizon Fios has no data caps, so you won’t experience any overage fees.

  • No contracts – With Fios internet, you don’t need to worry about long-term commitments and early termination fees.

Equipment, installation, data caps and contracts

Verizon Fios no longer charges rental fees for equipment for any plan, having rolled that fee into your monthly plan price. Verizon typically charges a $99 setup fee, but it’s currently waived for online orders. 

More good news: There are no data caps on any Verizon Fios plans, so you won’t have to worry about how much you’re gaming, streaming and downloading. 

Verizon Fios also doesn’t have any contracts, so you can leave any time without racking up early termination fees. Which is a pro when it comes to Verizon pricing.

Verizon Fios doesn’t require you to use their equipment

Although your router is now included with your Fios plan, you may want to consider purchasing your own Verizon-compatible router, which typically runs from $100 to $200. The benefit to that is you get to pick your speeds and features like parental controls and VPNs. If you do want to invest in your own router, just make sure it can handle the speeds you’re getting with your Fios plan. Of course, keep in mind that you are essentially paying for a router twice since part of the monthly plan price includes a rental fee for Verizon’s equipment.

You can get $20/mo. off a month if you bundle your internet and mobile phone plans. Verizon also offers new customers a $50 Target Gift Card with the purchase of the 300 Mbps plan. 500 Mbps customers can get a $100 Target Gift Card, and 1 gig customers can get a $200 Target Gift Card along with a streaming or gaming bundle. 2 Gig customers can get a $300 Target Gift Card and the streaming or gaming bundle.

According to our methodology rating of 4.43 out of 5 stars, Verizon Fios is the best internet provider in the country, so it’s no surprise that it beats out its competitors convincingly. Because its prices don’t go up after the first year, you’ll almost always end up paying less for Verizon in the long run and you’ll typically get faster speeds. Verizon also scored high in our ratings due to its high marks in customer service and the fact that you won’t be charged equipment or installation fees.

Bundling Verizon internet with TV service

Verizon Fios TV

Fios TV offers a wide variety of packages ranging from 125 – 425 channels, starting at $75/mo. You won’t need to worry about contracts or termination fees, and you can mix and match TV with internet and phone plans.

Verizon’s Mix and Match packages let you add TV or phone service to any internet plan — essentially what most providers do but with a catchy name. Fios TV packages will add anywhere from $70 to $110 to your monthly bill, and come with 125+ to 425+ channels. One unique perk of Verizon’s TV plans is that it lets you test drive the 425+ channel package for the lowest price for two months, so you can decide which package is right for you.

Additionally, Verizon has partnered with YouTube TV to add the live TV streaming service to your internet plan. It costs $64.99/mo. and includes over 85 channels. That said, this is the exact same price as it costs to subscribe to YouTube TV on its own, so there’s no real benefit to adding it to your Verizon Fios internet plan. 

Verizon customer satisfaction

In the 2023 report from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), Verizon internet scored 75 out of 100, the overall average for fiber providers. AT&T, Google Fiber and Quantum Fiber scored above Verizon.
