Spectrum Internet® provider rating and review
As the largest U.S. cable internet provider, Spectrum Internet® is a common internet service option for more than one-third of U.S. households. For example, New York City offers Spectrum, as well as Los Angeles, Dallas, San Diego and Charlotte.
Spectrum Internet® service scored a 3.82 on a scale of 1 to 5 across four major categories: affordability, performance, value and customer satisfaction. To learn more, read Allconnect’s review methodology. Spectrum also scored above average in reliability in our customer satisfaction report.
What we like about Spectrum
-
Low equipment fees – Spectrum includes a free modem with all internet plans and Advanced WiFi with Spectrum Internet® Gig
-
No data caps or contracts – Spectrum does not have data caps or contracts so you won’t incur extra fees for ending service early or binge-watching your fav shows
-
High Allconnect scores – Spectrum earned a 4.38/5 rating for performance with a 4.25/5 for value. See how we review providers
-
Gigabit plan – Spectrum has a gigabit speed plan with download speeds up to 1,000 Mbps
Things to consider
-
Higher pricing – Spectrum’s starting price of $50.00/mo. for 12 mos. for speeds up to 500 Mbps is a bit high when compared to a provider like Xfinity, which offers 400 Mbps for $35.00/mo.
-
Slow upload speeds – Spectrum’s upload speeds of 10 to 35 Mbps are on the lower end when compared to other providers
Spectrum Internet® plan comparison
Spectrum is widely available and their plans have some unique advantages, but they aren’t for everyone. Spectrum offers up to two internet plans, which you’ll find in our table below. All Spectrum plans come with a free modem, unlimited data and no contract requirements — perks you may not find with most internet providers.
Unless you bundle your Spectrum services, your Spectrum Internet® price may go up after the first year, so you could end up paying more than you’re expecting when you sign up — part of the reason Spectrum earned our second-lowest score for affordability of any provider. That said, you will get fast and reliable speeds for those high prices.
Customers can also access thousands of free public Spectrum WiFi hotspots nationwide. For new customers looking to switch to Spectrum in the middle of their current internet contract, Spectrum will provide up to $500** to subsidize any early termination fees you may face.
Spectrum Internet® Premier (500 Mbps) is best for midsize households, and Spectrum Internet® Gig is best for heavy gaming and streaming. Spectrum’s fastest plan is ideal for larger households with many users connecting at once.
Spectrum plan | Starting price* | Download speed** | Upload speed |
---|---|---|---|
Spectrum Internet® Premier | $50.00/mo. for 12 mos. | 500 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
Spectrum Internet® Gig | $70.00/mo. for 12 mos. | 1,000 Mbps | 35 Mbps |

**To qualify for the Contract Buyout Program, a customer must order and install a combination of qualifying Video and Internet and / or Voice services; offers not available in all areas. Spectrum’s Mobile Services are not eligible for the buyout program. Offer available to qualifying customers only who have no outstanding obligations to Charter. Payment amount will be determined by the Early Termination Fee on the final bill from the previous provider, not to exceed $500. How we scored internet providers
We evaluate broadband providers in four categories: affordability, performance, value and customer satisfaction. Each category contains multiple sub-factors, all of which are weighted differently to impact the provider’s overall score.
For each sub-factor, we score all providers on a continuous scale of one to five, relative to the industry as a whole. Because the average download speed in America is currently 180 Mbps, for example, we assigned all plans with download speeds between 100 and 299 Mbps a score between three and four. Xfinity’s 200 Mbps plan received a 3.50 score for download speed, while Spectrum’s 500 Mbps plan got a 4.16.
We only considered standardized data points in our scoring system. More abstract data like consistency of service and brand reputation is still part of our analysis, but we opted to let our writers address them in the context of each review.

Spectrum Wi-Fi equipment and fees
Overall, Spectrum equipment and installation costs are very reasonable. Here’s what you can expect to pay on top of your plan’s base pricing:
- Equipment fees: A modem is included with all Spectrum Internet® plans. Spectrum charges $10/mo. for Advanced WiFi with its 500 Mbps plan, but it’s included with Spectrum Internet® Gig. You can also buy your own Spectrum-compatible modem and router.
- Installation fees: You’ll pay up to $30.00 for self-installation on all Spectrum Internet® plans. In some areas, professional installation is available at a cost of up to $65.00. To avoid the higher fee, learn how to self-install Spectrum Internet®.
- Data caps: None of Spectrum’s plans have data caps, so you won’t have to worry about limiting your internet usage.
- Contracts: There are no contracts on any Spectrum Internet® plans, so you won’t get hit with early termination fees if you decide to cancel.

Spectrum customer reviews
The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) gave Spectrum a score of 68/100 in 2024, the same as last year’s score. This puts them in the middle of the pack, behind Cox, Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T.
J.D. Power also gave Spectrum Internet® average satisfaction ratings. Their rankings fared best in the South region, where they scored relatively high marks for Performance and Reliability, Customer Service and Overall Satisfaction, ranking behind only AT&T and Xfinity.
In general, the main thing you should know about Spectrum centers around billing. Many customers don’t expect a price increase after their offer term expires. If you’re not aware of these fees going in, your bill could end up being almost twice as much as you expected.
Spectrum customers reviewed their Spectrum Internet® service and were happy with Spectrum’s customer service and easy installation process. Explore more Spectrum customer reviews below.
I am happy with the overall price and their customer service is fantastic. My only complaint is how often I have to reset my router.
5/5
I’ve had Spectrum for a long time now, but it seems like in the past few months they’ve had an outage at least once a month and they’ve all lasted well over 2 to 6 hours. And it was not like that when I first started with them.
3/5
Great speed, good service, great price.

Spectrum Internet® FAQs
Who owns Spectrum?
Charter Communications purchased Spectrum in 2016.
How can I reduce my Spectrum bill?

Spectrum offers step-by-step self-installation, which is a great way to save money. You will need to decide beforehand if you want to use their equipment or purchase your own.
How do I cancel Spectrum Internet®?

All Spectrum plan prices will increase after the offer term expires (12 – 36 months) so make sure you read the fine print before you purchase your Spectrum Internet® plan.
Does Spectrum have any bundle deals?
Yes! You can bundle your Spectrum services for a discounted price and a multiyear price guarantee.
Does Spectrum have unlimited data?
Spectrum’s internet plans have no data caps, but make sure to read the fine print when dealing with data usage with any internet provider.
