Mediacom allows you to move your internet service. Not only is this easier than shopping for a new plan, but you can avoid costly Early Termination Fees (ETF). The transfer fee is no more than $49 to move your service. Bear in mind, you may also be responsible for additional installation fees at your new address. Of course, transferring is only applicable if Mediacom is available at your new location. If not, you will need to cancel your contract.

Pausing Mediacom service

Mediacom allows customers to put their service on a temporary, seasonal hold, especially for vacation homes or extended periods out of the country. You will still pay between $10-$15/mo. to keep your account current. This service is available in some areas for a minimum of two months and a maximum of six months within any 12-month period. Call Mediacom to find out if your service area is eligible to pause your account.

Are you eligible to cancel your Mediacom service?

Figuring out how to cancel Mediacom internet and cable is easy, but are you eligible? If you’re on month-to-month terms you can cancel any time. If you are under contract with Mediacom, the cancel service process is still possible but potentially expensive. You can still get rid of your cable or internet, but with an ETF. Early termination fees can be up to $240 for two- and three-year agreements and $120 for one-year agreements. If you are moving to an area that does not have Mediacom internet or cable service, you are still charged an ETF according to the length of your contract. 

If you are a member of the armed services and are being relocated to an area that does not have Mediacom service, you may receive an ETF exemption. To qualify, you must provide written notice and return all equipment.

Call (855) 633-4226 to talk to an agent. Be prepared with your account number, the name on the account and the address where you currently have service to expedite the process. 

Canceling Mediacom service in person

Mediacom has service in 22 states, many of which have in-person stores where you can receive face-to-face service. States with brick-and-mortar stores include California, Minnesota, Illinois and Georgia. Most Mediacom locations are in the midwest and southern U.S. Find the nearest location of Mediacom to disconnect service by entering your ZIP code on the company’s website under “Find your local Mediacom office.”

How to return your Mediacom equipment

Many Mediacom customers rent their equipment from the company. This can include modems, routers, DVRs and cable boxes. When you cancel service, you are required to turn in your equipment so you’re not charged for it. 

There are two options for returning equipment after you cancel Mediacom service: 

1. In person. If you have a local office, you can take your cable box or internet boxes right to an office and hand it over. 
2. Via mail. If you don’t have an office nearby, you can also have the company mail you a box to return the equipment via mail. To exercise this option, send a request to totalcare@mediacomcc.com with your account number. You can also reach out to the company on social media or request a return box when you are cancelling your service over the phone online.
