EarthLink fiber plans and pricing

EarthLink uses DSL and fiber-optic networks to deliver internet service. Depending on where you live, you could have access to either EarthLink High Speed Internet plans, which are a DSL service, or their Hyperlink plans, which use a fiber-optic network. The type of internet your address is serviceable for will determine available internet plan speeds and pricing. 

EarthLink has also introduced new speed tiers offering more options for consumers. EarthLink’s fastest speeds were previously 1,000 Mbps — now there are plans for 2 and 5-gig speeds. 

EarthLink’s Wireless Home Internet

This service is a bit different than other ISPs, where you pick your plan based on speed. With EarthLink’s Wireless Home Internet service, you pick your data amount and then you will be connected to the fastest available service in your area.

Wireless home internet uses the strongest signal from the cell phone towers nearest your location. According to EarthLink, if you are in a more “rural area where 4G LTE is widely available, you’ll be covered with a high-speed 4G home internet connection. 4G LTE is great for rural areas because cell towers are often available where a wired connection (like fiber internet) is not. And it’s faster than DSL internet, too.”

5G is still not available in many spots across the country, but if you are in an area serviced by 5G, you can access it with your EarthLink Wireless Home Internet service.

EarthLink’s Wireless Home Internet offers pricing from $69.95 to $89.95/mo. with no contracts. Modem rental is $14.95/mo. and you will be charged a one-time installation fee.

To purchase Wireless Home Internet, you agree to pay a nonrefundable Processing & Handling fee of $79.95 which will be due at time of order to complete your order. Wireless Home Internet Plans are monthly, paid-in-advance Plans that require you to pay your first month’s bill to activate. 

*If your Service has not been activated within 10 days from the Equipment delivery date, your Service will be automatically activated by EarthLink and the primary method of payment on file will be charged for the first month’s invoice, plus applicable taxes. Upon activation, Subscribers will have access to the internet. If EarthLink is unable to activate Wireless Home Internet Services, EarthLink reserves the right to cancel such Services.  

Where is EarthLink available?

EarthLink is available in over 30 states with primary service areas in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and parts of California and Nevada. Those in rural and suburban areas will most likely be serviceable for EarthLink DSL service, while those in metro areas may be eligible for fiber-optic service.

EarthLink internet equipment and fees

Like all internet providers, EarthLink internet service comes with its share of added fees. The good news is EarthLink’s fees are about the same as you’ll find with any provider, if not lower.

Equipment rental – $14.95/mo.

An EarthLink modem/router is required for service, which means you can’t use your own equipment and save on the monthly equipment fee. You can count on this fee with every bill, but fortunately it’s less than many providers charge for equipment rental.

Professional installation – Starting at $19.95

EarthLink requires professional installation and it will add around $20 to $80 to your upfront costs depending on your plan. It’s not a huge fee, as some providers charge well over $100 for installation, but where some providers may waive the installation fee, it appears that EarthLink does not.

Early termination fee – up to $200

Service contracts aren’t a big deal unless you need to cancel before the term is up. In which case, you can anticipate another charge from EarthLink for early termination, up to $200. This fee also looks to be unavoidable, so plan on keeping EarthLink for at least a year if you don’t want to incur an early termination fee.

EarthLink bill pay information

You can pay your EarthLink bill by mail and make single payments or set up automatic payments online.

To pay your EarthLink bill by mail:

Send a check or money order for the full amount due to the address listed on your billing statement. If you do not have your billing statement, login to myaccount.earthlink.net to view your balance and where to send your payment.

To pay your EarthLink bill online:

Go to myaccount.earthlink.net and login with your account credentials. Once logged in, you will be able to view your account information including the total amount due. Select Make a Payment and follow the instructions to pay your bill with a credit card. From this page, you can also choose to set up automatic monthly payments.
