Real speeds close to advertised speeds
According to an FCC report, over 45% of subscribers experienced speeds greater than 95% of what was initially advertised. About 30% received speeds within 80-95% of what was advertised and 25% received less than 80% of what was initially advertised.
CenturyLink DSL price is the same, speeds vary
Looking at the CenturyLink pricing table above, you may have noticed that some speed tiers are the same price. That’s because for one monthly cost, CenturyLink lets you choose their fastest speeds available at your address. Though this can take some of the choice out of shopping for internet service, it ensures you get the best value by delivering the fastest speed for the price.
Choosing the right CenturyLink plan
Though they all come at the same starting price, CenturyLink does give customers the option to choose between speeds where more than one speed is available.
Best for 1-3 devices, light use
Ideal for basic internet use such as shopping online, browsing social media and streaming in SD.
Best for 2-4 devices, light use
Streaming and gaming is possible, but you’ll want to use a wired connection for the best experience.
Best for 3-5 devices, moderate use
Better streaming and gaming performance over Wi-Fi. Connecting multiple devices may hinder connection quality.
Best for 4-6 devices, moderate use
Good for streaming and gaming on a couple devices at once. This is also the fastest plan eligible for the Price for Life Guarantee.
Best for 10+ devices, heavy use
If CenturyLink Fiber is available in your area, it will come with speeds up to 940 Mbps, perfect for any home internet use on a virtually unlimited number of devices.**
*Speed may not be available in your area.
**Speed may not be available in your area. Maximum download/upload speed of up to 940 Mbps via a wired connection.
Seeing as all things are equal between CenturyLink DSL plans other than the installation costs, we recommend choosing the fastest available speeds. Even with the potential added initial cost, the fastest available plan will provide more value in the long run.
