T-Mobile is one of the most well-known and popular phone carriers, also currently possessing the strongest 5G network in the U.S. If you’re new to T-Mobile, you can get some great deals on new phones. However, you typically have to meet a number of different qualifiers, like joining T-Mobile with an eligible plan, switching to T-Mobile from an eligible carrier and being able to trade in a device in good condition that meets the criteria for the given deal.
T-Mobile’s phones cost $868 on average, compared to $820 for Verizon and $556 for AT&T.
While you will find some great options when joining T-Mobile, we read through the fine print to let you know what’s required for each deal. But, as companies often make changes, be sure to check the carrier’s website for more information before making a commitment.

iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
Maximum savings: $1,000
Right now, T-Mobile’s best iPhone deals are on the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. T-Mobile does have other iPhone models available, but if you’re new to this carrier and want to take advantage of their deals to get a free or heavily discounted phone, you can. Though, you’ll have to meet some eligibility requirements and trade in an eligible phone.
With each iPhone deal, you’ll need to join T-Mobile on an unlimited plan, bring your number from an eligible carrier and purchase the phone on a monthly payment plan. Credits will then be deducted from your bill. Here are the devices T-Mobile is currently accepting as trade-ins for the full $1,000 off:
- Apple: iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 8
- Samsung: Samsung GS20, S10, Note10, Note9
- Google: Pixel 4, 4XL

Motorola razr 5G
Maximum savings: $700
T-Mobile is currently offering the Motorola razr 5G — one of the most expensive smartphones on the market — for half off its retail price. Like the iPhone 11 deals, you will need to trade in an eligible phone to take advantage of these savings. T-Mobile is accepting the following models on this deal:
- Apple: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11

It’s offering the iPhone SE (2020) entirely for free when you open a new line and trade in an eligible device. For the full $400 off, T-Mobile is accepting the following phones:
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
For $300 off the iPhone SE, you can also trade in these older devices:
- iPhone 6s

Samsung Galaxy A71 5G
Maximum savings: $300
Right now, the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G is available for just $300 through T-Mobile — half off its sticker price. You won’t need to trade in your current smartphone, either. Just sign up for a T-Mobile unlimited plan, and the $300 discount will be credited over 24 monthly bills.
Buy one, get one free deals
If you’re looking to open an account with T-Mobile with multiple lines, some of the company’s best deals are “buy one, get one free.” When you purchase the following phones on a 24-month contract, you’ll get a second one entirely free (in monthly credits to your bill). You can also mix and match which Samsung Galaxy phones you want to include in the deal.
- Apple iPhone 11 Pro
- Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max
- Samsung Galaxy Note20 5G
- Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G
- Samsung Galaxy S20 5G
- Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G

T-Mobile trade-in program
One of the major incentives for switching to another phone company is that they offer some free phone deals. While T-Mobile does offer some of these incentives, it’s important to understand that most of them are contingent on an eligible trade-in and/or whether or not you’re switching to T-Mobile from an eligible carrier and/or joining as a new customer (read the fine print). Otherwise, you may get some money off with another type of trade-in, but it won’t cover the full cost of the phone. Different phones have different eligibility requirements for the trade-ins.
Also, in this case, “free” does not necessarily mean that they’ll apply it to each monthly balance you have over the duration of your contract with T-Mobile. This, of course, can make it feel like you’re being sucked into a contract in exchange for possibly getting a free phone, but it’s worth inquiring about.Learn more about T-Mobile’s trade-ins and upgrades
T-Mobile phones FAQs
T-Mobile’s phone prices fall pretty much right in the middle of the pack. However, they also have frequent discounts on their devices, which means you can often find good deals that include buy one get one free, as well as 50% off discounts on devices and in some cases entirely free devices.
Looking at the popular Apple iPhone models shows that without discounts T-Mobile is at the higher end of the price spectrum when compared with the other large carriers. The same is true for Samsung phones, although the prices for LG devices are slightly lower than many of T-Mobile’s competitors. Basically, you will want to wait for a sale when buying devices from T-Mobile, or bring your own.
T-Mobile doesn’t have any specific upgrades on devices, but what they do have is the JUMP! program. If you’re a member of the program, you can upgrade to a new, qualifying phone if it’s been 12 months and you’ve already paid off at least half of the device you currently have.
The JUMP! program is part of T-Mobile’s Protection <360> plan, which also gives you device and content coverage. You may need to put a down payment on your new device, and of course, your current phone needs to be in good, working condition. Also, not all phones are eligible for JUMP!, but any phone purchased with an EIP (Equipment Installation Plan) will work.
In addition to the deals above, you can also get a number of phones completely free through T-Mobile. In order to get one of these phones for free, you must activate a new voice line on a qualified rate plan to be used with the new device, purchase the device through their 24-month payment plan on your newly activated line, as well as pay the applicable taxes on the pre-credit device price at time of purchase.
The following free phone deals don’t require you to trade in an existing phone, but you will still need to open a new unlimited line and commit to a 24-month contract:
- Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G ($700)
- iPhone SE ($400)
- REVVL 4+ ($192)
- LG K51™ ($186)
- Samsung Galaxy A11 ($180)
- Motorola moto e ($150)
- LG Aristo® 5 ($150)
- REVVL 4 ($120)
