You can share your Wi-Fi password on your Android device by generating a QR code or using Google’s Nearby Share feature, which works similarly to Apple’s AirDrop.
How to share your Wi-Fi password by scanning a QR code
You can generate a QR code with your Android device that others can scan to connect to your Wi-Fi network. To do this, you need your device running on Android 10 or later. Depending on your Android devices, these steps could vary slightly.
Here’s how to do it on a Samsung phone:
- Go to Settings > Network and Internet > Wi-Fi
- Tap the icon next to your Wi-Fi network’s name
- Select the QR code icon to generate a QR code that can be saved or shared
- If you share the code, have the person scan it with their phone’s camera, and they will be connected to your Wi-Fi network
Here’s how to do it on a Google Pixel phone:
- Open Settings
- Go to Network and Internet > Internet
- Tap the icon next to the Wi-Fi network you want to share
- Click Share
- Confirm your identity
- A QR code will appear on the screen with the Wi-Fi password visible underneath
- Someone can then scan the code or use the password to connect to your network
How to share your password on Android using the Nearby Share feature
The Nearby Share feature on Android devices resembles the AirDrop feature on an iOS device. It uses Bluetooth to share links, photos, Wi-Fi and more between two devices. Instead of having another person scan a generated QR code, they will automatically connect to the Wi-Fi with Nearby Share.
To use the Nearby Share feature to share Wi-Fi:
- Navigate to your password share screen in settings using the steps above
- Click the Nearby Share button below the generated QR code. If prompted, enable the feature
- The Android device you want to share your Wi-Fi with will appear on the Nearby Share screen
- Select the device you want to share your Wi-Fi with
- Tap Accept in the box that appears on the phone you are sharing with
How to share your Wi-Fi between Apple and Android
If you need to share your Wi-Fi with an Apple device, you can follow the same steps as above to generate a QR code for the Apple user to scan.
