We all think we know what we want in a forever home. Well, at least until we live in one for a month and realize that something is missing. It’s always the little things – like the placement of light switches – that drive us craziest in what we’d want to be our forever homes. But here’s the truth, you’ll never be 100% happy with everything in your forever home, and that’s alright. However, when you include these four amazing features, those little nuances just start to seem so insignificant.
A Built-In Fire Pit
There’s nothing quite like spending cool fall evenings in your backyard with the kids running around while you sit by a nice, warm fire. It’s nice to know your fire is contained, and it’s aesthetically appealing for an outdoor feature that doesn’t take a lot of maintenance. The memories you’ll make here – roasting marshmallows for s’mores, sipping a decadent glass of red wine, and enjoying the simple things in life – make it a perfect addition to any home.
Surround Sound in Every Room
Parties are so much more enjoyable when everyone is up and dancing. And what could be more amazing than hosting the holidays at home while your favorite Christmas carols play softly in every room? (Very little, if you ask me.)
Surround sound, with hidden speakers built into the ceiling as well as your outdoor living space, are what dream homes are made of. This kind of professionally-installed technology makes every gathering more amazing. If you don’t want to have speakers in every nook and cranny though, talk to a professional about home theater installation. You’ll get a movie room to be proud of, and it won’t get bogged down by other noises in the house.
Outdoor Living Spaces
Your family probably loves to spend time outside. There’s just something about a big wooden deck or a covered patio with a built-in kitchen and bar. It’s where you gather and enjoy the serenity of nature in luxurious surroundings. Put a television on the wall above the bar so you can watch your favorite sports teams with friends, and your house instantly becomes the one everyone wants to visit. Outdoor living is a huge part of what makes outdoor spaces more amazing.
And when your house is the coolest house around, it’s where your kids will want to be when they’re teens and adults with their own families. Your house might become their hangout house with friends, but you’d rather have them where you can see them at that age.
“If you are building your forever home, add smart technology.”
If you are building your forever home, add smart technology. A smart thermostat, oven, and even heated tile in the bathrooms are all perfect choices. Toilet seats that lower themselves slowly so no one is hurt, heated towel bars, and an oven you can program from your smart phone on your way home from work will make your house amazing. These additions of modern technology make life more enjoyable, simpler, and a lot more affordable.
In the end, your forever home should contain whatever makes you happy. Add what you want, leave out what you don’t, and always keep your family’s needs in mind when designing the features you want most. And that’s because not only should your home be functional, but it should also reflect who you are.
