Suddenlink High Speed Internet on the “Go”

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Suddenlink cable TV and high speed Internet has made a couple of big announcements over recent days.  While it certainly doesn’t affect a far reaching audience, it is good news to the local communities and a glimmer of hope for other rural areas.

First, according to Victor Godinez on the Dallas News Tech Blog, Suddenlink announced plans to roll out faster broadband Internet to a few rural communities outside Dallas, Texas.  The new areas could see speeds up to 50mbps in the next month or so with cheaper Internet plans in the 20, 10 and 15mbps range.  While the new speed doesn’t cover the nation, or even all of Texas, it is good to see a cable Internet provider reaching out to the more rural areas.  Perhaps we will see braodband Internet nationwide in the near future.

In other news, A post from Todd Spangler at Broadcast & Cable reports Suddenlink has also announced plans to offer HBO GO, the TV everywhere service from HBO, to all of its HBO subscribing customers.   Even better, the HBO GO service is free for current HBO subscribers on any high speed Internet connection.

Dish Network + SlingPlayer Mobile = TV Everywhere

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

We’ve discussed the potential for watching TV everywhere several times.  We’ve also discussed the benefit of the Slingbox.  Now, how about a big name satellite TV provider partnering with Sling in order to truly bring you TV everywhere?

Dish Network has just released its DISH Remote Access app.  The app allows you to control pretty much every aspect of your Dish Network satellite TV.  Using your Sling enabled satellite receiver, you can watch every channel you subscribe to – live.  You can watch whatever’s on your DVR and manage recordings – add, delete, etc.  The really amazing part is that you do all of this using your mobile device as the remote!

Dish Network, Satellite TV Everywhere

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Just a few days ago, we discussed the ability to watch cable and satellite TV everywhere using the Slingbox.  Well, it looks like satellite TV provider Dish Network is making it even easier.

According to Todd Spangler at Multichannel News, “The video-streaming feature, pegged to debut in September, will be an extension of the free Dish Remote Access app, which provides DVR management features for most of the operator’s DVR receivers. Dish anticipates offering a BlackBerry version in September and one for Google’s Android operating system in October.”

ViP® 922 Slingloaded™ DVROf course, Dish Network dish TV customers still need access to a Slingbox to take advantage of the new “TV anywhere” features in the enhanced Dish Remote Access app.  Current Dish Network customers can use either the ViP® 922 Slingloaded™ DVR (with built in Slingbox technology) or an actual SlingBox.  Either way, Dish Network is certainly making it easier to never miss those must see shows.
